Cannes Lions 2024: De Sprekers (en hoe Lions te winnen)

Ja, je gaat weer naar Cannes! En misschien ga je wel voor de eerste keer! Nog spannender! 

Cannes is zo groot en er is zo veel te doen dat je gerust de hele zomerse week in Cannes kunt doorbrengen zonder aa het officiële programma deel te memen.

Marketing Report start een serie artikelen voor die mensen die wel naar Le Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes gaan om zich te laven aan het allerbeste dat er wereldwijd op gebied van creatie, marketing en media bestaat.

Wij gaan met ingang van vandaag iedere dag drie sprekers introduceren.

We starten met een algemeen overzicht.

Om te beginnen met de sprekers uit Nederland en België. Daar kunnen we kort over zijn. Die zijn er vooralsnog niet. So much for Amsterdam Creative Capital.

Queen Latifah

Wie speken er dan wel? Ieder jaar heeft Cannes wel een mega super ster on stage en dit jaar is het het Queen Latifah.

Considered hip-hop's first lady, the woman behind the moniker Queen Latifah was just 18 years old when she broke through in the late 1980s with a style that picked selectively from jazz, reggae, and soul traditions. Her debut single, Wrath of My Madness, was released in 1988. A year later, her debut long-player, All Hail the Queen, enjoyed favored reviews. Her name means delicate and sensitive in Arabic, but she has often been anything but in her rhymes. One of the most prominent female hip-hop artists on the scene for over a decade, Queen Latifah has also made tremendous inroads in movies, television, and artist management, with her management company, Flavor Unit, alongside her business partner Shakim Compere. A role model who takes the responsibility to heart, Latifah has carefully constructed a fine career for herself-one that is constantly moving upward.

Groter is het aantal adverteerders dat aan het woord komt - wellicht een stimulans voor meer marketeers uit Nederland om dit jaar af te reizen naar Cannes: Unilever, Liquid Death, J.P. Morgan & Chase, Kraft Heinz, Lenovo, Diageo, Adobe, Amazon, Nubank, Duolingo, Mars, Procter & Gamble, Lego, Bayer en Novo Nordisk

Olympics

De Olympische Spelen zijn dit jaar Parijs en dat zie je terug in het programa van Cannes waar verschillende sprekers Olympische onderwerpen zullen behandelen.

Competitie Cannes Lions

En laten we vooral niet vergeten dat er ook een competie is waar je fel begeerde Cannes Lions kunt winnen Marketing Report sprak onlangs met Kerrie Finch, Cannes Lions Country Representative voor Nederland over hoe je een Lion wint.

En dan, zoals aangekondigd, de introductie van de eerste drie sprekers:

Deepak Chopra

For the last thirty years, Chopra has been at the forefront of the meditation revolution and his 93rd book, Living in the Light (Harmony Books) taps into the ancient Indian practice of Royal Yoga and offers an illuminating program for self-realization, bliss, and wholeness. TIME magazine has described Dr. Chopra as “one of their top 100 most influential people.”

Esi Eggleston Brace

Chief Growth and Marketing Officer Unilever

Esi Eggleston Bracey is Unilever’s Chief Growth and Marketing Officer, responsible for leading Unilever into the next generation of marketing and maximising opportunities for growth. Previously, Esi served as President of Unilever USA and CEO of Unilever Personal Care in North America.

With decades of executive experience in consumer goods and beauty, Esi has a track record in guiding organisations to unlock growth in rapidly evolving marketplaces. She is a creative, energetic and dynamic leader who delivers impact for people, communities and the planet. Esi is the co-founder of the CROWN (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Coalition to help foster beauty inclusivity and to eradicate race-based hair discrimination through support of the CROWN Act legislation.

A native of Chicago, she graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in Engineering Sciences. Esi is married with two children and lives in New York.

David Droga

Founder, CEO Droga5

In every organisation, the two people who know the most about a company are the CEO and the person in the mailroom. David is proud to say he has held both positions and is better for it.

At only 18, he started his career delivering packages. By 33 he had climbed the ranks at Saatchi & Saatchi and was promoted to Global CCO of Publicis, but decided to move to New York instead to open his own agency, Droga5, in 2006.

To date, he is the most-awarded creative at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity and the youngest person ever inducted into the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame.

In September 2021, David stepped out of creative leadership role to become the global CEO of Accenture Song. During that time David has taken Accenture Song from a $12.5 billion company to a $18 billion tech-powered creative giant.
